Seventh-day Adventist Church work progresses

MOSES LAKE — With volunteer help, the new Seventh-day Adventist Church is taking shape on Valley Road in Moses Lake.

Phase 1 of the 20,000 square-foot church should be done toward the end of the summer, said Darryll Rudebaugh, a church elder and building committee co-chairperson.

The church’s former location downtown measured about 12,000 square feet.

There’s no completion date set, as the nearly $2.5 million building is being built on a cash basis, he explained.

The church currently has $1.5 million of the total amount required.

“If we have the funds, we will build,” Rudebaugh says.

Money to build the church is coming from its members.

“Now that we started building, several are getting re-excited again,” he commented. “We’re excited about it.”

When completed, the new church seats 375 people in the main sanctuary and 100 people in overflow areas.

The building becomes enclosed and windows are added during Phase 1.

“It will start to look complete in Phase 1,” Rudebaugh said.

If the new church becomes too crowded, they will have a core group of members do a “church plant,” in which they start another church, he says.

“We want to stay small enough to be like a family,” Rudebaugh explained.

Many volunteers and some hired workers were working on site this week, said Darayl Larsen, a retired pastor from the church.

Construction on the church started in September, but was slowed down by the cold weather.

The floor was poured this spring.

The church was formerly located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Division Avenue in Moses Lake.

But there was a lack of space for the children’s Sabbath School, Larsen explained.

The church moved out of the downtown building in 2006 and into the gym of the Crestview Christian School, next to the church’s new building site.

“It was our plan to build the church on the same campus as the school,” he said.
