EPHRATA — A Grant County man pleaded guilty to shooting his roommate six times in an attempt to kill him.

Martin B. Robles, 19, pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder.

In February 2009 he started shooting in a trailer he and the victim shared between the Potholes reservoir and Othello, according to court records.

The two men spent the night drinking and using cocaine, according to a Grant County sheriff’s report.

Robles admitted to detectives he used a .22 caliber rifle to shoot the victim through the bedroom wall after the man fell asleep. The bullets passed through the wall, striking the victim, according to the police report.

After emptying the rifle’s magazine, Robles left the trailer. When he returned, he saw the victim talking on the phone and fired at him again. Police found 15 spent rifle casings in the living room where Robles fired.

The victim ran a quarter of a mile to a store near Mar Don, where police were contacted, according to the police report.

Sentencing for Robles is scheduled for May 11. Prosecutor Angus Lee plans to ask for a 16-year sentence, he stated.
