Chiefs track ends Big 9 campaign

MOSES LAKE — With the regular season winding down the Moses Lake track teams hope to head into the post season with their mojo intact.
Yesterday, both the boys and girls squads played host to Hanford, Kennewick, and West Valley (Yakima) in a Big 9 meet and showed some improvement and promise as the campaign enters its waning days and the league competitions have come to an end.
The boys team dropped a 92.667 - 42.333 decision to Hanford and lost to West Valley 72-63 while tying Kennewick 66.5 - 66.5.
On the girls’ side, the Chiefs defeated Kennewick (74-72) and lost to Hanford (76-66) and West Valley (78-65).
The girls’ strong performance was led by the noteworthy wins by Jordan Loera (triple jump, 34’3.5”), and Abby Stones (pole vault, 8’), and second place finishes by Magie Munoz (400-meters. 1:01.72 and 800-meters, 2:34.34), Hannah Marsh (1600-meters, 5:54.41), and Chelsi Chamberlain (100-meter hurdles, 18.83).
Loera also finished second in the long jump (15’4”) while Stones took third (14’7”).
Sadie Nielsen took third in the discus (109’) and shot put (32’2”), Tiffany Morris did the same in the 300-meter hurdles (51.74) and Julia Sheremet recorded the same placed finish in the 3200-meters (13:15.32).
Taking third in the javelin was Loera (114’7”).
“The girls did an awesome job,” Moses Lake girls coach Nicki Weiland said. “We did very well against Hanford and West Valley and won a close match against Kennewick. It was the best we’d done in a long time against Hanford and West Valley.”
The triple jump terrific trio of Mitchell Hill (42’7.5”), Dylan Moberg (41’10.75”), and Jordan Wilks (40’10”) continued their season-long dominance in triple jump, finishing first, second, and fourth.
It was the first time all season they had not swept the top three spots.
Randy Koon took top honors in the long jump (20’10.5”) while Hill took second (19’10.5”).
The 4x100-meter relay team of Wilks, Hill, Moberg and Dylan Hyppolite won with a time of 44.33.
Wilks finished second in the 100-meter run (11.85), and Moberg (200-meters, 23.41) and Cameron Law (pole vault, 12’9”) took third in their respective events.
