MOSES LAKE — After a rain delay caused a late start to their Big 9 tennis contest against the Richland Bombers the Moses Lake Chiefs were unable to win their final home match of the season dropping a 5-2 decision.

Tyler Knapp cruised to an easy 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles while the No. 2 doubles pairing of Adam Coulson and Conner Koreis won a narrow 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision for the Chiefs’ only victories on the day

“It was a great win for Tyler,” Moses Lake coach Jon Wrigley said. “Tyler got up on him early and never let the match go.

“Conner has match experience so I moved him from his usual spot at second singles to give us a better chance for the team victory,” Wrigley added. “Adam stepped up and took the opportunity and played a great match.  They had a great practice the day before and I could sense good tennis was going to be played by this two today.”

No. 1 singles player Connor Lange dropped a tense 6-2, 2-6, 5-7 decision to Richland’s John Talbot.

“It was a tough loss as they have gone back and forth the last two years,” Wrigley said. “Connor was up 5-2 in the third and John just would not go away. There were amazing points being played by both players it was a match full of momentum swings.”

The other pivotal three-set, dual deciding loss came at No. 1 doubles, when Moses Lake’s Dominic Cacchiotti and Levi Huddleston fell 6-4, 4-6, 0-6.

ROYAL CITY — Having a shorthanded lineup once again reared the ugly ramifications of the situation for the Royal Knights.

A forfeit at No. 3 doubles allowed visiting Columbia-Burbank to hold on and beat Royal 3-2 yesterday.

The Knights recorded a sweep at singles with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win by No. 1 Candelario Peraza and a two-set win by No. 2 Luis Valenzuela, 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles play the No. 1 team of Courtney Kunjara and Audrey Ramsden cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

“This team has been building towards a match like this,” Wrigley said. “They just hit some great shots and really gave us momentum when they got the win.”
