Danna Lee Gill

Danna Lee Gill, a resident of the University Place community, died after more than three years battling ovarian cancer on Tuesday afternoon, April 20, 2010 at the Franciscan Hospice House in University Place, in the company of a very dear friend.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the United Methodist Church of Kent, 11010 SE 248th Street, Kent, Washington 98030. A reception will follow.

Danna L. Gill was born August 28, 1956 in Moses Lake, Washington the daughter of Tom and Myrtle (Harden) Gill. She was raised and received her education in Moses Lake, having graduated from Moses Lake High school with the class of 1974. She later attended Big Bend Community College for two years followed by two years at Spokane Community College obtaining her Associate Degree in Nursing. She finally completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1995.

Danna’s 30 year nursing career began in 1980 at the Valley Medical Center in Renton, Washington as a staff Registered Nurse in the CCU/ICU. She later moved to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center in 1983, where she worked as a RN in the Trauma/ICU/CCU/Burn/Neuro/Recovery care departments. In 1985, Danna began working for Auburn Regional Medical Center to assist as an RN in the Emergency Department. Danna was the charge nurse at St. Francis Hospital from 1987-1989 then worked in critical care services for St. Joseph Medical Center from 1989-1993. In 1993, Danna began her employment with Franciscan Health Systems working with major surgery and day surgery recovery. In 1995, she started in the Home Health service as both a Team Leader and Field Nurse where she worked until she joined Covington Urgent Care to serve as a consulting nurse until she retired in 2009.

Danna was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Kent. She was also a member of the Washington State Nurses Association.

Among her special interests Danna enjoyed travelling, gardening and jewelry making, reading books and poetry, antique shopping and enjoying friends and family, especially when eating was involved. Her favorite flower was the stargazer lily and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was her favorite song.

Danna was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her sons, Reese Nelson Hughey, of Issaquah, Washington and Ross David Hughey, of Bellevue, Washington; her sisters, Opal Whelchel, of Canby, Oregon; Paulette Duncalf, of Cornelius, Oregon; Sonja and Gary Chatterton, of Moses Lake, Washington; and Tami and Joe Silva of Grandview, Washington; by her best friend, Cecile Wilson and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
