Baseball winds down

Othello 17-2, Prosser 1-3 - Ephrata 25-26, Toppenish 0-0

WARDEN — The Warden Cougars baseball team kept pace in the South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) East with a 5-4, 7-4 sweep of Wahluke on Friday.

Warden (11-5, 6-4) are now tied for third for Connell after winning their opener with a late, eight-inning, comeback against Wahluke before holding on to take the second game with a three-run fourth inning outburst.

Christian Mayberry went 3-for-4 in the opener and recorded the game-winning RBI, while Jacob Yamane finished 2-for-4 with a homerun in the nightcap.

Othello 17-2, Prosser 1-3

PROSSER — A strong pitching performance by Prosser’s Izzy Hernandez thwarted the Othello Huskies’ attempt at a sweep on Saturday.

Othello (15-5, 13-5) crushed Prosser in the opener  17-1 in five innings knocking out 13 runs in the third inning but fell 3-2 in the nightcap behind Hernandez’s showing.

In their win, Huskies Chris Brunetti (3-for-4 two RBI), C.J. Garza (3-for-4, three RBI), Shon Valdez (3-for-4, three RBI), and Derrick Lopez (2-for-3, four RBI), led the Othello offense.

Ephrata 25-26, Toppenish 0-0

EPHRATA — Two resounding, five-inning routs of Toppenish propelled Ephrata into sixth place of the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) on Saturday.

The Tigers (9-9) have clinched a home district playoff spot and will host Quincy tomorrow in play-in game starting at 4 p.m.
