MOSES LAKE — On Saturday the Columbia Basin Riverhawks dropped to 1-1 in Washington Football League (WFL) play with a 35-32 loss to the Wenatchee Valley Rams at Lions Field.

Quarterback Craig Lukins recorded 500 of the team’s 600 yards in total offense and five touchdowns — four passing and one rushing.

The defending WFL champion Rams trailed 32-27 with just under three minutes left in the game before three straight deep completions that ultimately ended with a touchdown and the final margin.

The Riverhawks attempted to get down into field goal range with time running out but were thwarted with a Lukins interception with eight second left.

“My guys played their hearts out and it showed throughout the game,” Riverhawks coach Shane Starnes said.

Created as a non-profit organization, all gate monies earned go directly into the team’s equipment and operating expenses fund.

Ticket prices are $5 for fans 18-and-over, $2.50 for those aged 12-to-17, and anyone aged 11 or younger is admitted free.

The WFL is an minor league, eight-team football organization with a schedule that runs from late March through late May.

Columbia Basin heads to Oak Harbor High School to take on the North Sound Shockers on Saturday and will host their next home game on April 24 at 6 p.m. against the Hermiston Hurricanes.
