WENATCHEE — A strong start to the 2010 golf season continues for the Othello Huskies as they finished sixth at the Jack Barnes Invitational played at the Wenatchee Highlander Golf Course on Monday.

Othello finished with a team score of 320 as Southridge eked out the win with a 301 to top the 19-team field.

Sam Para scored a team-best 75 on the par 72 course to lead the Othello finish into the Top 10.

“Sam finally showed his true colors,” Othello coach Sammy Rocha said. “He has been struggling lately but has just proved that he can shoot low scores, especially in a field filled with excellent golfers.  Sam finished tenth overall out of 80 golfers, so maybe this is the tournament where he turns his game around.  His swing is coming along but most importantly, his putter is finding the line, so if he keeps this up, he’s going to be dangerously good.”

Dylan Jahns finished with a 78 for Othello, while teammates Jared Kummer’s 81 and Brian Elgin’s 86 rounded out the team’s scores.

“Dylan also had an outstanding day even though Wenatchee was filled with 25 mile per hour gusts and rain,” Rocha said. “Dylan is a pure ball striker, so the wind didn’t affect him as much as the other players.  This was Sam’s and Dylan’s best rounds of the year; their game is coming along but they still have some minor glitches in their game that they need to work on.

“Jared has been pretty consistent most of the year,” Rocha added. “He’ll have a bad hole, par the next few holes and then have another bad hole.  We have to find a way to get him more consistent.  His driver is still giving him some problems so we’ll have to straighten that out soon.  I’m not too worried about him.  He’s a state veteran who will gradually get better and better.”
