Moses Lake supports recycling

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake City Council voted to move forward with implementing a recycling program.

After listening to a presentation, council opted to begin more review of the program and will consider rates, said City Manager Joe Gavinski.

Council was favorable toward a three bin program.

A 96-gallon bin would be used for yard waste, a 64-gallon bin would be used for combination recycling and the garbage bin varies in size, he explained. The garbage bin is selected by the customer and ranges in sizes including a 48-gallon bin, 64-gallon bin and 96-gallon bin.

The size of the garbage bin people selected determines the rate they will pay. The ?proposed increase ranges from $3 to $15.

The current cost for garbage collection at the residential level is $10.

The more people recycle, the smaller bin they need for garbage, Gavinski said. Most people should be able to use the smallest garbage bin.

It should take about four months to implement the program.
