MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake High School sophomore Bailey Jo Heath took a week off school to participate in a Senate Page Program.

Heath was sponsored by Sen. Janéa Holmquist, R-Moses Lake. She participated in the program during the ninth week of the 2010 legislative session.

The program is an opportunity for Washington state students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Pages are responsible for numerous tasks, such as running errands and delivering mail.

They spend time in the Senate Chamber and page school learning about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process.

“When I visited with Bailey before session and urged her to apply, I knew she would enjoy her time and learn a lot about state government,” Holmquist stated. “I’m glad she seized the opportunity.”

The highlight for Heath was meeting students from around the state.

“I’ve learned so much about the process,” she explained. “I didn’t realize how many people it takes to make a law.”

An avid musician, Heath plays the guitar and enjoys singing. She participates in musicals and is interested in working in broadcasting.

“Bailey is a talented young woman who has a bright future ahead of her,” Holmquist stated. “I know God has huge plans in store for this young lady and Bailey’s parents should be very proud.”
