MOSES LAKE — Four young women compete for the title of Miss Moses Lake Roundup Queen at Pillar Rock Grill, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The contestants are: Catrina Langley of Soap Lake, Lacy Leigh Goroski of Royal City, Charli Jean Bergevin of Ellensburg and Jamie Joy Judd of East Wenatchee.

Langley, 19, is a 2009 graduate of Smokiam High School in Soap Lake and a current coach for the Washington State High School Equestrian Team.

Her royalty titles are extensive. Langley is the 2004 Junior Miss Rodeo Washington, the 2007 Moses Lake Junior Rodeo Club’s senior queen and 2008 Miss Rodeo Othello.

Her parents are Travis and Mary Lou Langley, of Soap Lake.

Goroski, 18, is a senior at Royal High School.

Her parents are Lloyd and Laura Leigh Goroski, of Royal City.

She has been a member of the Desert Hooves 4-H Club for 13 years and is a former club president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.

Goroski likes riding her Quarter Horse gelding Odie in her spare time.

Bergevin, 19, is a 2008 Kittitas High School graduate. She was raised in Ellensburg.

She attends Bluestone Academy in Ellensburg and wants to operate a beauty salon after graduation.

Bergevin participates in a local roping club and in amateur rodeos.

Her parents are Jim and Rita Bergevin.

Judd, 23, was the 2009 Appleatchee Riders queen. As queen, she gained experience visiting rodeos statewide, meeting other queens and the public.

Judd is currently a student at Wenatchee Valley College, pursuing degrees in the medical field and business management.

Her parents are Mark and Thera Judd, of East Wenatchee.

On pageant day, contestants complete in a horsemanship section that is open to the public at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Grant County Fair Rodeo Arena, said Jill Tonne, a pageant director and the 2003 Miss Moses Lake Roundup.

Throughout the day, contestants participate in personal interviews with the judges.

The competitors give two-minute speeches at Pillar Rock Grill on any aspect of Washington or their communities.

They also model an outfit, which is usually Western dress attire.

Tonne said her experience as queen helped her professionally.

“Just the skills you gain from being the title holder and in the pageant, with the confidence and the public speaking ability,” she explained.

She was 21 when she was selected and currently works as a crop advisor for Simplot Grower Solutions.

On Saturday, the 2009 Miss Moses Lake Round Queen, Sara-Jane Prchal, crowns the 2010 queen.

Prchal, 21, a 2007 Royal High School graduate, stated she “had an amazing year traveling across the state of Washington and into Oregon for the Columbia River Circuit Finals Rodeo in Redmond representing the Moses Lake Roundup and the community.”

Prchal wants to become Miss Rodeo Washington.

Tickets should be available until Thursday or Friday at Big R, located at 1147, W. Broadway Ave., and The Tack Shop, located at 604 W. Third Ave., in Moses Lake, Tonne said. They cost $25 each if bought in advance.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door and cost $30 per person.
