EPHRATA — A man was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly throwing rocks at a Moses Lake patrol car, nearly hitting an officer, in Ephrata.

Antonio L. Cruz, 34, Ephrata, was arrested for assault in the third degree.

“While in route to jail with another prisoner, I spotted a suspicious male running around Division Street and Basin Street in Ephrata,” according to the Moses Lake police report.

The officer notified Ephrata police of the male.

“I decided to try and keep track of the subject until Ephrata police arrived,” the officer wrote in the report. “The subject began throwing rocks at my patrol car striking it once on the trunk. I exited my vehicle to confront the subject and he threw a rock at me, missing my head by only a few feet.”

Ephrata police reported seeing the suspect earlier that morning. Police reported the man was allegedly intoxicated and had run from police earlier.
