MOSES LAKE — Four women were crowned with 2010 titles through the Miss Moses Lake pageant Saturday night.

McKenna Reis is the 2010 Miss Moses Lake Outstanding Teen.

“It was a lot of fun,” she said. “I was really excited.”

Reis took home awards for Top Talent, Top Interview and Best Aerobic Wear.

For her talent she performed a clogging routine.

She explained how during the opening number for the pageant, her shoe broke as she was about to get on stage. She was able to get it taped together just in time.

Reis explained her platform is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) awareness. She plans to hold a walk to promote knowledge of the disease in September.

“I’m going to go to all my functions and be a positive role model and represent my platform and do the best I can,” she said.

First place runner-up for the teen category was Samantha Fina.

The teen Miss Congeniality award went to Shelby Johnson.

Three titles were awarded for the adult Miss pageant.

Miss Moses Lake 2010 is Susan Harrison, 23, of Chewelah.

She is double majoring in political science and environmental science.

During the pageant she performed “Flight of the Bumblebee” on a piano. Harrison has been playing piano since first grade.

Her platform deals with mental health and making people feel comfortable talking about mental health issues.

“I’m very excited to be able to represent Miss Moses Lake,” she said.

Miss Eastside 2010 is Heidi Nicks, 23, of Seattle.

She is attending nursing school at Seattle University.

She performed a jazz dance to “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone.” Nicks has been dancing all her life.

Her platform concerns promotion veterans coping with mental illness.

She explained her uncle committed suicide a couple years ago. Nicks said her uncle served in Vietnam and suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She said she wants to take steps to prevent other veterans from taking the same action with their lives.

Nicks said she’s been to Moses Lake several times in the past and is thankful she was selected as a title holder even though she is not from the area.

Miss Columbia Basin 2010 is Brittney Henry, 22, of Puyallup.

“The night was really exciting,” she said.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the evening was being crowned by her sister, the 2009 Miss Columbia Basin, Danielle Henry.

For her talent, she played “Orange Blossom Special” on the fiddle.

She won the top talent and top interview categories.

First place runner-up was Shelby Yada. Second place runner-up was Whitney Glebe and third place runner-up was Natasha Anderson.

Megan Houston won the Miss Congeniality award.

Top Swimwear was awarded to Glebe.

Pageant Director Kris Duncan-Crum said they had a full house at the Moses Lake High School theater and expect to award more than $3,000 in scholarship money to the title holders.
