EPHRATA — The last man involved in a June stabbing and beating in Mattawa was sentenced to six months in jail.

Luis A. Moreno Farias, 18, Mattawa, pleaded guilty to assault in the second degree in Grant County Superior Court. Prosecutors lessened the charge from assault in the first degree as part of a plea agreement.

Grant County Superior Court Judge Evan Sperline sentenced Moreno Farias, following a recommendation from the prosecutor, according to court records.

He and two other men chased the victim across backyards in Mattawa before cornering him in a driveway on South Ellice Avenue. After beating the victim, Moreno Farias stabbed him, according to a Mattawa police report.

Both Eric and Rogelio Perez Garcia told police they thought the victim was dying and when they noticed people watching the incident they fled, according to the police report.

The victim received help from a resident after getting back to his feet and was airlifted to Kadlec Hospital in Richland.

Eric Perez Garcia, 18, Mattawa, and Rogelio Perez Garcia, 19, Mattawa, each pleaded guilty to assault in the third degree.

Sperline sentenced Rogelio Perez Garcia to three months in jail. Judge John Knodell sentenced Eric Perez Garcia to 30 days in jail. They faced a maximum sentence of three months in jail.
