Elizabeth Easter Purdy Fischer
Betty was born in Rye CO on her grandparents’ dairy farm and passed away at home in Moses Lake WA on February 22 with family at her side. The oldest of seven children born to James Blaine Easter and Ada Letitia Kirchner Easter, Betty led an adventurous young life in Santa Rosa, NM before moving to El Paso TX where she grew up. She trained as a teacher for early grades and later worked as a school secretary at Pasadena, CA schools and California State College, LA campus. After retiring, Betty and her late husband, John H. Fischer moved to Yuma, AZ where they spent nearly 30 happy years square dancing and participating in antique car club activities and many other interests. In 2002 Betty and John moved to Seattle, WA to be near their surviving children. Betty recently moved to Moses Lake with her daughter and son-in-law. Betty was admired by many for her zest for life. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at age 74 at Northern Arizona University where four generations attended her graduation, including her mother. Her college major and lifelong passion was the study of the geography, history and culture of the American Southwest. Betty went on to author a self-published volume of family history that has become a treasured family legacy. Through Elder Hostel tours, she had travel adventures overseas and in the US. Betty is survived by two sisters Joie Wood and Mary Ellen Cann and brother Jack Easter, son Patrick Purdy and daughter Carole Johnson, nieces and nephews, 5 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Her first husband Albert Purdy and their eldest son John Purdy predeceased her. Betty’s family will soon gather to remember her at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA where her body will rest. Her soul is with her Lord Jesus. We love you, Mama.
