GRANT COUNTY — The Grant County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse is holding a membership drive at two locations Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The drives are planned at Big R, located at 1147 W. Broadway Ave. in Moses Lake and Del’s Farm Supply, located at 1510 Basin St. in Ephrata.

Posse members are giving free horse rides and providing information about their group to recruit more volunteers.

The posse assists law enforcement in search efforts during investigations, provides mounted and foot patrol security, volunteer during events including Chief for a Day, Grant County Museum Pioneer Days and represents the sheriff’s office during parades.

“We also have social functions and trail rides,” explained posse captain Molly Harguindeguy. “The posse trains year round in all types of terrains and conditions in order to serve their communities. Sensory training is a priority and they train their horses to work under extreme conditions.”

During the winter, the posse holds indoor training and classroom work.

“Evidence recovery training is also a priority,” she stated. “We often practice drill commands for use in actual search and recovery settings. We do grid search training and have recently begun GPS tracking training.”

People interested in joining the posse must be at least 21 years old and pass a criminal background check.

For more information, people are asked to contact Sheriff Frank DeTrolio at 509-754-2011, ext. 468 or Harguindeguy at 509-771-2353.
