Roberta Jones Ormsby

Former resident Roberta Jones Ormsby also known as Bert passed away on February 23, 2010 in Harborview Medical Center at the age of 77. She was the seventh child born to Samuel Thomas Jones and Emma Mae Thornton Jones in Nolan, Arkansas December 20, 1932.

After attending Bush Valley High School Roberta moved to Tracy, California in 1951 where she met Thomas Willard Ormsby at the Giant Orange Café where she worked as a waitress. They were married in Tracy February 1952 and resided in Tracy raising three children until they moved to Moses Lake, Washington in 1975. They were divorced in 1978. She resided in Moses Lake working as a waitress at TJ’s Pantry until the early 90’s and then moved to Juneau, Alaska in 2005.

Her hobbies included a good joke, gardening, sewing, cooking, water skiing in her younger years, watching or reading a good mystery. Here in Juneau she loved outdoors and going on whale watching tours during the summer. She stated many time that she wished she had moved to Alaska when she was younger so she could have experienced more of Alaska.

Roberta attended Auke Bay Bible Church where she gave her life to Christ in February 2007.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers Troy, Leonard, Wintford, Bill, Sam, Wendell and Clay; sisters Pauleen and Colleen. She is survived by her sister Willeen Hutchens living in Waldron, Arkansas; daughter Victoria Ormsby living in Spokane, Washington, son Marc Ormsby and his wife Jesie living in Juneau, Alaska, and her other son Steve Ormsby and his wife Mary living in Moses Lake, Washington; two grandsons Dustin and James and one granddaughter Sophi.

We will miss her sense of humor, pickle chunks, and many pies and jellies.

A memorial service will be held at Jamison’s, Wednesday, March 17, 605 East Nelson Rd, Moses Lake, Washington from 11am to 2pm. All friends and family are invited to attend.
