OFFICIAL NOTICE FOR NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE WASHINGTON CANOLA AND RAPESEED COMMISSION

Pursuant to chapter 15.65 RCW, I, Daniel Newhouse, Director of Agriculture for the state of Washington, hereby gives notice that public meetings will be held at the Washington State Department of Agriculture, 1111 Washington St. SE, Olympia, WA in conference room 205 on March 23, 2010 for the purpose of nominating candidates for Position 4 and Position 6 on the board of the Washington Canola and Rapeseed Commission. The current terms will expire May 31, 2010. Nominations may be made in person at the meeting or telephonically by calling (360) 902-1802 for the following positions at the indicated time:

Position 4, District 2 - 9:00am - 9:30am

(District1 includes the counties of Ferry, Pend Oreille, Spokane and Stevens)

Position 6, District 3 - 9:30am - 10:00am

(District 2 includes the counties of Asotin, Columbia, Garfield, Walla Walla and Whitman.)

All affected producers of canola or rapeseed in District 2 and District 3 are entitled to participate and nominate candidates from their respective district. Qualifications for affected producer members require that the candidate be a practical producer of canola or rapeseed in the district in and for which they are nominated and elected, a citizen and resident of the state of Washington, over the age of 25 years, and actively engaged in producing canola or rapeseed within this state for a period of five years and has, during that time, derived a substantial portion of his/her income therefrom. A producer member cannot be engaged in business as a handler or other dealer. The qualifications of members of the board must continue during their term of office. The next term of office will be from June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2013.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, nominations may also be made by written petition if signed by five or more affected producers of canola or rapeseed from your district. Written petitions must be mailed or faxed to the Washington State Department of Agriculture, Commodity Commission Coordinator, PO Box 42560, Olympia, WA, 98504-2560, Fax: (360) 902-2092, and postmarked no later than March 29, 2010.
