Quincy police buy new uniforms

| March 9, 2010 8:00 PM

QUINCY — The Quincy City Council approved spending $9,903 for new uniforms for its police officers.

The city budgeted $11,000 for the uniforms in its 2010 budget. Police Chief Richard Ackerman said the purchase may cause the police department to exceed its budget by $500 to $700 due to cleaning costs.

“The current uniforms are not up to par,” he said.

Along with this, the department hasn’t fulfilled an union contract requirement for new uniforms, and would need to purchase 56 shirts and pants to catch up.

“I strongly believe this to be a win-win for the department, to make it look sharp and be a high-quality looking department,” he said.

Councilmember Jeremy McCreary agreed the uniforms looked nice and were needed.
