Cowell homicide award increased to $40,000

WENATCHEE — Information leading to the conviction of the subject or subjects responsible for the murder of Mackenzie Cowell increased to $40,000.

The 17-year-old Orondo teen’s body was found along the Columbia River in Crescent Bar Feb. 13, by passersby. She was believed to be last seen Feb. 9, at the Riverfront Park boat ramp at the edge of Orondo Street that night. It is unknown what she was doing or who she may have been meeting, according to the Cowell Homicide Task Force.

Investigators have no suspects.

Police seek her missing cellphone described as an LG EnV2, the task force advised. Anyone who has seen this type of phone that may be related to the case or if anyone has other information related to the case, they are asked to call the 24-hour RiverCom tip line at 509-663-9911.

Through contributions to the Mackenzie Cowell Benefit Trust Fund and the Wenatchee Valley Citizens Against Crime, the $40,000 award was established. People with tips and suspect information are asked to contact the tip line.

A $5,000 reward was established through Crime Stoppers for those who wish to remain anonymous. People can call their tip line at 509-888-4280, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
