The Home Center collects shoes for Haiti

| March 5, 2010 8:00 PM

MOSES LAKE — The Home Center furniture store is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a Shoes for Haiti drive.

The charity program will be featured in 40th anniversary sale advertising in the Columbia Basin Herald this month.

According to General Manager Wendy Cox, The Home Center will collect donated shoes during the month of March. Each person who brings shoes to the store will receive one entry per pair into a drawing for a $3,000 Queen-sized latex mattress set.

The drawing will be held March 31. The shoes will be sent to Haiti shortly thereafter.

People can donate as often as they want, Cox said.

“Hopefully we’ll get a good response,” she said.

Cox said the idea for the Shoes for Haiti campaign was developed by owner Roger McSteen. She said he wanted to find a way to help the earthquake victims.

“This gives us a chance to involve the community in helping the people of Haiti,” she said.

The Home Center is located at 515 W. Broadway Ave. in Moses Lake
