He is now part of the Herald’s advertising department.

Johnson, 40, comes to the newspaper with a variety of Internet development experience.

He holds a degree in computer science from Eastern Washington University.

“As the Internet becomes a more integral part of our news and information delivery we needed to expand our staff. We are fortunate, that Kody, originally from Odessa, wanted to locate back to Central Washington,” said Columbia Basin Herald Advertising Director.

“He brings over 20 years of Internet development expertise for such brand names as Disney, ESPN and the NFL. With his knowledge and our web dominance in Central Washington, we have the opportunity to help many businesses expand their online presence and sales.”

Johnson spoke of improving the newspaper’s Internet advertising sales, creating new opportunities and leveraging existing resources.

“I’ve always loved the idea of newspaper,” he said. “It came from my time at ESPN and ABC News. I worked in a lot of different industries. It’s the first time I’ve been able to get into a newspaper. It’s even better doing it close to where I grew up.”

Johnson and his wife Julie have three sons, a 10-year-old, and twins, age 7.

“We can certainly appreciate the benefits of a small town and smaller schools,” Kody commented.
