Blaine K. Turner, 90, Moses Lake resident, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 after a yearlong battle with cancer of the pancreas.

Blaine K. Turner, 90, Moses Lake resident, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 after a yearlong battle with cancer of the pancreas. A lifelong resident of Eastern Washington, he was born in Oroville, Washington, the only child of George and Anna Turner of Chesaw, Washington.

Blaine graduated from Molson High School in 1939. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and served from March 25, 1941 to June 11, 1945. He was stationed at Kodiak, Alaska for most of his enlistment and obtained the rank of PFC, Artillery Division. While serving in the Army he married Helen E. Juday of Omak, Washington on February 18, 1942 in Orange, California. After his honorable discharge from the US Army Blaine ranched and served as U.S. Rural Letter Carrier in the Chesaw area for 10 years. In 1959 he transferred to Odessa, Washington where he ranched and carried mail for another 20 years. Blaine retired from the Postal Service in 1983 and relocated to the Block 40 area of Moses Lake where he and the family raised cattle and horses. In 1990, Blaine and Helen moved to their final retirement place in Cascade Valley and continued to tend small lots of cattle and horses on seven irrigated acres and 20 dry land acres in Chesaw, WA. The family continues to own a home in Chesaw and spends as much time as possible in Chesaw during the summer months. Blaine’s lifelong passion has been for horse and cattle husbandry. He was an active member of the American Quarter Horse Association for 40+ years and a lifetime member of the Odessa chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Blaine is survived by his wife Helen Turner; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken & Dusty Turner of Soap Lake and Dean & Arlie Turner of Moses Lake; his granddaughter, Char Turner of Othello; and great-granddaughters Kylie & Brianna.
