Fire burns about eight acres near Soap Lake

SOAP LAKE — A fire burned about eight acres of land along state Route 28 near Soap Lake Tuesday.

SOAP LAKE — A fire burned about eight acres of land along state Route 28 near Soap Lake Tuesday.

The fire started behind a home near the intersection of state Route 28 and Road 20 Northeast, spreading to nearby fields, Kirk Sheppard, Grant County Fire District 7’s fire chief said. No larger structures were damaged, but some out buildings may have been caught in the fire.

The fire started at about 4:15 p.m. Grant County fire districts 7 and 13 and the Ephrata Fire Department responded, containing the fire by about 5 p.m.

Sheppard said the cause of the fire is unknown and the Grant County fire marshal is investigating.

State Route 28 was closed for about 20 minutes while firefighters fought the fire.
