EPHRATA — Crescent Bar Resorts owner Tom Park asked Grant County PUD commissioners Monday to keep his business and others in mind during changes at Crescent Bar Island. Park was referring to the recreation additions and the end of private residential use for about 400 leaseholders. Some of the changes begin in 2012, when the lease between Grant PUD and the Port of Quincy ends. The lease allows residential use on the island. Park’s business is located off the island. He rents homes on Sunserra, which is not owned the PUD, and also provides Jet Skis. He was speaking about off-island businesses, but also agreed the area needs on-island stores, like a swimsuit shop. “There is a lot going on at Crescent Bar and we’re starting to get momentum up,” he said. “Don’t cut us off at the knees.” Park added they are barely making it during the summer months and asked the PUD to make easy for the vendors during the transition. If the island is closed, then “we’ll have nothing,” he said. “We have to have an inner structure. If we cut out everything, we’ll have nothing. I want to see that transition happen slow, but sure.” He explained the area even has its own newspaper, the Crescent Bar Chronicle, which he brought a stack of for commissioners. He also left some tourism books at the meeting. Commissioner Randy Allred agreed there should be a concessionaire in the process.
