State, county start burn barrel exchange program

Grant County residents can trade burn barrels for compost bins at no charge.

OLYMPIA — Grant County residents can trade burn barrels for compost bins at no charge starting July 20.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Department of Ecology (DOE) and Grant County Solid Waste are working on a project to collect and destroy burn barrels in the county, according to Ecology. Using burn barrels is illegal in Washington.

Barrels may be exchanged between 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Grant County Landfill, located at 4002 Road 13.5 N.W. in Ephrata.
