China trip to provide business insight

Chamber members will tour factories, connect with business leaders
MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce-sponsored trip to China offers a look into the country’s business culture with jade and silk factory tours.
“It’s an opportunity for us to interact with business leaders and for their business leaders to interact with us,” said Debbie Doran-Martinez, the chamber’s executive director.
She characterized the April 2-11, 2011 trip as “more of a widespread, general feel for the country, its culture and the business climate.
China was chosen as the destination because the economy is doing well, she said.
“Oftentimes, many of our jobs are outsourced to China and to other countries,” Doran-Martinez explained.
American industry is looking to set up business there.
The $1,999 trip includes transportation from Moses Lake to Sea-Tac International Airport, three meals a day, hotel accommodations, tour admission, an English speaking guide and luggage handling.
Tour highlights include a visit to Tiananmen Square in the capital city of Beijing, Palace Museum, Summer Palace, Great Wall of China, Lama Temple, Temple of Heaven, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou.
Those interested in the trip are invited to an informational meeting at 5:30 p.m., July 19, at the chamber office, located at 324 S. Pioneer Way.
Travels agents will also attend the meeting.
Reservations are accepted at the meeting and can be made through the first of the year.
Chamber members making early reservations by Sept. 1 receive a $100 discount.
Non-chamber members receive a $50 early reservation discount.
