National Frozen Foods Corporation employees held a dedication ceremony to honor the memory of war veteran and supervisor Ed Wurzer.

MOSES LAKE — National Frozen Foods Corporation employees held a dedication ceremony to honor the memory of an employee.

War veteran and supervisor Ed Wurzer passed away from an illness this year. Wurzer worked for several years at National Frozen Foods, where he touched the hearts of many employees.

“Ed was a very hard worker, was humble, well-liked and respected by everyone,” said Gary Ash, general manger. “We wanted to do something to honor his contributions to us, both personally and professionally.”

Employees decided installing an American flag in the front of the building would be the perfect way to appreciate Wurzer. Family and friends of many employees attended the ceremony where employees shared stories of Wurzer and discussed plans for the flag.

“The ceremony went very well,” Ash said. “We all got a little sentimental, but it was a fun event too and I’m glad we got to do it.”

The flag honors more than just Wurzer.

“I hope (the flag) is something that helps create a larger spirit of patriotism through the city as the holiday approaches,” said Tommy Porter, plant superintendent.

Another purpose of the flag is to symbolize all National Frozen Foods employees serving in the military.

“This was a perfect time to do the ceremony because it is so close to Independence Day,” Ash said. “This shows our respect for the men and women fighting for our country as well as the people here in Grant County that have done the same.”

Employees plan on putting up a plaque in front of the flag featuring an inscription which reads: “In recognition of past and present employees honorably serving in the United States military.”

“We have about 400 employees here and I’d guess about 10 percent served or are serving in the military,” Ash said. “And the beauty of it is that every single employee knows someone special who is working for our country.”
