Antigua vacations are perfect for people who enjoy water activities

If you enjoy spending time at the beach and taking part in water activities, there are few vacation destinations better than Antigua in the Caribbean.

The largest of the British Leeward Islands has 365 beaches, all of them considered excellent. The island's plentiful natural anchorages and tiny islets to explore make sailing, kayaking, fishing and snorkeling popular activities here. Constant trade winds make it a terrific windsurfing destination as well.

Antigua vacations really offer something for everyone when it comes to water sports. Ready to start planning your trip?

A good place to start is by deciding where you will stay. There are several resorts that offer all-inclusive packages for Antigua vacations. If you're looking to save money, that's a good way to go, as both accommodations and food will be included in the price. Activities, such as sightseeing and adventure tours, are often included as well.

Prices on the island are at their peak during the high season, which runs from mid December through April. Summer is a great time to visit, as there are often bargains galore - up to 40 percent off the regular prices.

Because demand is down during the summer, as an added bonus, cheap airline tickets are fairly easy to come by. Direct flights are available from several U.S. cities to Antigua. Delta flies direct from Atlanta; U.S. Airways flies direct from Charlotte; American Airlines flies direct from Miami and New York-JFK; Caribbean Airlines flies direct from Miami and Continental flies direct from Miami and Newark.

When you arrive on the island it's a good idea to grab a hotel map. Keep in mind, however, that street names will probably not be listed. Locals generally give directions based on landmarks, such as "turn left at the blue house" or "go right at the big tree."
