MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake High School boys swim and dive team felt like anything but a fish out of water during their dual on Tuesday against visiting Davis and Eisenhower High Schools.

Coming off a tough loss the previous weekend to Eastmont, the Chiefs came out firing on all cylinders as they captured a 133-49 dual meet victory over their visitors from Yakima and a 124-58 victory against Eisenhower to complete a sweep.

“After that loss last week we came on strong against both teams and with best times out of several swimmers,” Moses Lake coach Tony St. Onge said. “We are at that point of the season where mental toughness will be a deciding factor as to whether an athlete will be successful and move on to districts and state.”

The Chiefs (4-2) featured double winners, Reuben Huddleston (50-yard freestyle), Reid Jackson (500-yard freestyle), and Kyle Reeder (100-yard freestyle).

Huddleston’s best time was a 23.76, while Jackson’s ended up at 5:23.23, and Reeder completed a personal day best of 54:39 against Davis.

“In the dual, the team had a lot of close races,” St. Onge said. “All across the team,  from first year to senior swimmers we stepped it up.  This mental toughness has to be built upon to perform well as the championship season approaches.”

Other events that saw Chiefs victors includes, the 200-yard medley relay team of Thomas O’Niel, Evan McFarland, Huddleston, and Reeder, that completed a win against Davis with a 1:53.34.

Also against Davis, Jackson took the 200-yard freestyle win with a 2:09.67, McFarland captured a victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:21.13, and Huddleston took home first place in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a 59:33.

McFarland captured the 100-yard backstroke against Davis with a 1:06.89, and O’Niel made a splash in winning with a 1:15.97 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Dominic Cacchiotti, McFarland, Reeder, and Huddleston also won against Davis, finishing with a 1:38.87.

Taylor Hamilton took first in the diving competition scoring a 119.3 for the Chiefs who saw Braxton Ford end up second with a 120.65 for Moses Lake.

Daniel Noteboom took first place in the 200-yard freestyle against Eisenhower with a time of 2:07.79, and Reeder took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:09.61.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ian Isherwood, Skyler Galloway, Colby Byington, and Noteboom also defeated Eisenhower head-to-head, ending their race with a 4:13.84.

“We currently have 19 athletes qualified for districts,” St. Onge said. “We need to challenge ourselves during practice the next few days during practice and go beyond what we think we are capable of  if we want to move athletes past district level competition.”
