Edwena 'Wendy' Raye Catlin

| January 18, 2010 8:00 PM

Born in Brownwood, Texas, Wendy was a graduate of Washtucna High School in Washtucna, Washington, and went on to serve as a highly trained Cryptologic Technician in the United States Navy, serving her country in active duty for just over 20 years. While serving in the U.S. Navy she earned her Bachelor of Science from Hawaii Pacific College in Business Administration and then continued her education, after retirement, by earning her Masters of Education in E-Education.

During her time in the service she traveled extensively with a great appreciation for every location she visited, collecting artifacts from all over the world. Some of her travels include Spain, Italy, Japan, and Alaska. After retiring from active duty she became an Instructional Designer for Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth, Texas.

Her current interests were with the Grant County Historical Society and as Chapter Leader of the local Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Group.

She is survived by her son, Evan Catlin and his fiancée Mary Sams of Portsmouth, Virginia; he is serving on Active Duty as a Second Class Electronics Technician aboard the USCGC TAMPA (WMEC-902) home ported in Portsmouth, VA. She also leaves her parents, Dan and Leigh Catlin of Moses Lake, WA; her brother and his wife, Dan and Sally Catlin of Ephrata, WA; her sister and her husband, Rick and Beva Miles of Spokane, WA; and younger brother Terry Catlin of Carlsbad, New Mexico, along with numerous nieces and nephews who she loved unconditionally.

In the words of Henry Van Dyke, “Just at the moment when someone at my side says: ‘There she is gone.’ There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: ‘Here she comes!’”

A Celebration of her Life is being planned in Ephrata, place and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff of the Hospice Unit at the VAMC and to the many friends and relatives who offered love and support.
