Stephen Raymond Smith

Stephen Raymond Smith died Monday, December 28, 2009, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, from complications resulting from cancer treatment. He was 60 years of age. Steve was born May 25, 1949, in Wenatchee, WA to Cyril R. and Esther R. “Peggy” Smith. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1967 and from Washington State University in 1971. He later obtained his master’s a degree from Eastern Washington University. Career-wise, Steve was a teacher and librarian/media specialist in the Warden School District, located in Grant County. He retired in 2005. After retirement, Steve returned to the Wenatchee area, settling in East Wenatchee. He was active in Wenatchee’s First United Methodist Church, the congregation in which he grew up. He was also a volunteer at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center. His interests including reading, traveling and collecting fine art.

Stephen is survived by his older brother, Bruce and wife, Barbara of Woodinville, WA; niece, Amy Smith and her daughter, Molly Shoffner of Bothell, WA; nephew, Charles Smith, his wife Addle and their two sons, Samuel and Nathanial of Everett, WA; plus numerous relatives in the Wenatchee area and elsewhere. Steve also leaves behind many friends and acquaintances throughout the state and around the country.

A Memorial Service Celebrating Stephen’s Life will be held Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wenatchee First United Methodist Church, 941 Washington Street. Remembrances may be made to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, P.O. Box 19023, Seattle, WA 98109.
