Benefit breakfast for Bernard family is Saturday

QUINCY — A breakfast benefiting the family of Grant County sheriff’s deputy John Bernard is at the L&R Café in Quincy from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Bernard, 52, died in a crash while on patrol Jan. 3. He left behind his wife Tami, and two adult sons Brandon and Jeff. Brandon is also a Grant County sheriff’s deputy.

The pancake breakfast is sponsored by the Upper Columbia Basin Fraternal Order of Police. The group is comprised of several police agencies including sheriff’s deputies and Quincy police.

The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage and coffee or orange juice. Police are taking orders and serving patrons, said Quincy police Officer Sal Mancini.

Café staff are donating their time to the event, he said.

The cost is $5 per person for ages 12 and up and $3 per person for people under 12 years old and senior citizens.

“If anyone wants to donate over and above that, they can,” said Mancini. “This is a good way to show your support for deputy Bernard and his family and law enforcement as well. It’s all for a good cause. It is for his family.”

In case there are an overwhelming number of people who come for breakfast, C7 Bar & Grill will seat people in their establishment next door, he added.

L&R Café is located at 1114 Central Ave. S., in Quincy.

A public memorial ceremony was held in Bernard’s honor Monday. He was given a law enforcement ceremony with hundreds of people attending.
