I would like to start out by saying thank you to all the people who participated in the election and voted for me. It is because of you that I was able to take a trip to Seattle for a conference related to my new position as Port Commissioner. This trip was a novel and rewarding experience that I would like to share with all of Moses Lake. On November 17th 2009 I took my first flight with the United Express at the Grant County International Airport to catch the first flight of the day to Seattle. This being my first time ever flying I had a lot going through my head not really knowing what to expect. As I approached the TSA area the airline employees were very helpful and it was an easy and painless screening. While waiting to board the plane I could not help but notice how everyone around me was calm there was no anxiety, no rush, and best of all no hostility. This was definitely a pleasant experience.

“Time to board the Airplane” said one of the many friendly United Express employees. As I took a seat the flight attendant showed us all the safety features on the plane and informed us of what to do incase of emergency situation. By this time my nerves were calm and I was ready to take-off to my destination for a 3 day seminar. As we were arriving near Seattle the lights of the city were in full bliss, to see such a city like that from the air was something everyone should witness.

Take off from Moses Lake was a fun experience but landing 30 minutes later in a city three hours away by car was fantastic. As I walked into the lobby of my hotel, I realized how convenient this flight had been, if I would have been driving I would just be entering Ellensburg. Three days later I did it all again to come back home to our beautiful city of Moses Lake. Many people in our community have used our air service but there are still a lot of fellow citizens that still do not realize we have air service available. During my two trips I talked to people on the flights and every one of them told me that they love the fact that the air service is available and urged me to keep it around. I will do whatever I can to keep this air service here but ultimately it is up to us all by using the service, and spreading the word.
