QUINCY — The Fraternal Order of Eagles plan to start a branch in Quincy.

The group is holding two organizational meetings starting at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 and Feb. 4 at the Grant County Fire District 3 fire station, located at 1201 Central Ave. S. in Quincy.

Bill Walton, the Wenatchee Eagles’ secretary, came to a recent city council meeting to discuss setting up the organization. The Wenatchee branch is leading the creation of the organization in Quincy.

“We would like to start organizing meetings here,” he said. “The first couple meetings is to just get people in here, get them signed up and normally what happens is if we get a bunch of people in is pretty soon they have a suggestion of where we can go.”

The group needs 50 members and 25 auxiliary members to start an “aerie” and auxiliary in Quincy, Walton said.

The Eagles are a national non-profit charitable organization. Walton pointed to two fund-raisers the Wenatchee branch has held to help Grant County projects. The first was a beer garden run during a Quincy library fund-raiser at Parties on the Green.

“I got quite a bit of interest at that particular event,” he said. “Everybody said, ‘Yeah, we’d like to have one here,’ so I waited until the first of the year to get through the holidays.”

The branch held a pancake breakfast last weekend for Grant County Sheriff’s Deputy John Bernard, who died on Jan. 3 when his patrol car crashed while he was on duty near Ephrata.

“We raised almost $900. We even had deputies from Grant County stop in and have breakfast,” he said.
