MOSES LAKE — A memorial fund is established in the name of Grant County sheriff’s deputy John Bernard to help his family.

Bernard, 52, Moses Lake, died while on patrol near Ephrata Sunday night. He apparently rolled his car and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Donations can be made at any U.S. Bank to the John Bernard Memorial Fund.

An Incident Management Team (IMT) was established to assist the family with planning a law enforcement funeral.

The IMT is comprised of law enforcement, fire service, Grant County Emergency Management and the Behind the Badge Foundation.

The funeral arraignments continue to be planned. A memorial service will be held at Big Bend Community College. A date and time are not yet set but the planning group is considering a Monday memorial.
