Our votes became unimportant, and irrelevant to 83 percent of Democrats in the state Senate. In a bill deviously titled only “Relating to Fiscal Matters,” Senate Democrats voted to suspend the provisions of the voter Initiative-960, requiring either a 2/3 vote of the Senate or 50 percent+1 of Senate votes and a vote of the public to raise taxes. The intention was to force government to live within their means and present tax increases to the electorate as a last resort. The government has not even feigned an attempt to follow the law.
