Our votes became unimportant, and irrelevant to 83 percent of Democrats in the state Senate. In a bill deviously titled only “Relating to Fiscal Matters,” Senate Democrats voted to suspend the provisions of the voter Initiative-960, requiring either a 2/3 vote of the Senate or 50 percent+1 of Senate votes and a vote of the public to raise taxes. The intention was to force government to live within their means and present tax increases to the electorate as a last resort. The government has not even feigned an attempt to follow the law.

Senate Democrats demonstrated their intent to blatantly thwart the will of the people. I hope this move by Senate liberals, amidst the current era of “open government” and “transparency” rhetoric coming from Democrats everywhere, will serve to further the growing awareness by the electorate of the great depths to which the hypocrisy of the left dwells in their policies, actions and intent.

Troubling for liberty loving Americans, government has become arrogant and consumed by their power. They have the audacity to declare with such boldness that they know best, that they know better than “We the People.” I call all citizens to stand up and shout, declare once again the power and strength of our democracy lies not with government but in citizens who work, build, teach, and defend our communities.

Lest we forget “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government” – Declaration of Independence 1776.
