MOSES LAKE — Couples, cancer survivors and groups of friends attended the Country Sweethearts dance Saturday night.

Hosted by the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation, the event raised money to support cancer patients in Adams and Grant counties.

“This is one of our main fund-raisers and all proceeds benefit local cancer patients,” said Kayla Stoker, the foundation’s marketing director. “I am really happy with how much support we’ve received from the community.”

The dance took place at the Moses Lake Event Center. The center had an elegant country feel, featuring pink cowboy boots as table centerpieces, hay, candles and cowboy hats.

Stoker said 170 tickets were sold. The funds enable foundation members to help cancer patients pay for various expenses.

“We give patients gas cards to help them as they travel to get treatment, food vouchers and gift cards,” Stoker said.

The event began with appetizers, silent auction and photo opportunities for couples. Dancers from the Ballet Academy and a cowboy poet from Coulee City entertained guests during dinner.

“I’m really enjoying my night so far,” said Moses Lake resident Nicole McEachran. “The dancers were really cute and it’s great to be here, supporting a good cause.”

Foundation Executive Director Mary Frederick gave a speech, thanking volunteers and describing what the organization does for cancer patients. Some cancer survivors discussed their experiences with the audience.

“I came to support the cause because my son is a cancer survivor,” said Moses Lake resident Robin Seibold. “Events like this cause awareness. As a mom of a survivor, I think it is important for people to come together and think of what they can do to help out.”

A live auction and dance occurred after dinner.

“It looks like everyone has been really enjoying themselves,” said Jeff Stoker, volunteer. “We have great food all around and great entertainment.”

Many attendees said the ballet dancers were the highlight of the evening.

“The dancing was just beautiful,” Seibold said.

Moses Lake resident, Deb Graser, couldn’t choose a favorite part of the event.

“Everything is my favorite; the whole evening has been really enjoyable,” she said.

Graser came to support the foundation.

“This is such a great cause because the foundation helps so many people who are in need directly,” Graser said.
