Hot shooters hit the Spot in competition

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Park and Recreation Hot Spot program, one that showcases youngsters’ basketball skills, held a competition on Wednesday, Jan. 27, with many participants getting involved in the event.
The competition was held at Moses Lake High School’s Maroon Gym.
Four boys and the same number of girls were named first place for their individual age-based competitions — ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14.
Girls winners from the competition were, Madison Blackman (7-8), Samantha Waites (9-10), Jessica Loera (11-12), and Taylor Padilla (13-14).
Top shooters in the boys’ contests were Dylan Roylance (7-8), Adam Cooper (9-10), Carson Fisk (11-12), and Dylan Greninger (13-14).
The Hot Spot competition involves shooting for five “Hot Spots” marked on one half of a basketball court and tests the young athletes’ all around basketball skills within a series of one-minute periods.
The youth with the highest accumulated number of points were declared the winner.
All age group winners advance on to the State Hot Spot Competition in Lakewood on March 21.
The event was run by parks and rec staff members and also 10 members from the Columbia Basin Job Core helped administer the competition.

Joshua Hodgkinson, 3. Abraham Nunez; (9-10 years old boys) 1. Adam Cooper, 2. Carson Pesta, 3. Zach Phillips; (11-12 years old boys): 1. Carson Fisk, 2. Coleman Cooper, 3. Kyle Cochran; (13-14 years old): 1. Dylan Greninger, 2. Adrian Vazquez; 3. Dan Sielaff.
