Big Bend Community College hosts Jobs Project

MOSES LAKE — An event aimed at helping students learn about businesses and college programs is occurring at Big Bend Community College.

The Central Washington Jobs Project is starting at Big Bend Community College for the fourth year. The event starts at 8 a.m. Friday in the ATEC building.

The purpose of the project is to connect industry employment needs with workforce ready people; utilizing public infrastructure customized according to industry requirements. Central Washington Jobs serves Grant and Adams counties.

There are several speakers from local businesses discussing projects and workforce. Marketing and training committees are telling

attendees about the PET Training classes from 2009 and the new class of 2010.

Dr. Clyde Rasmussen, dean of professional and technical programs, is discussing a training grant from the United States Department of Agriculture — the New Era Rural Technology Grant. This may be used for the PET training program of the Central Washington Jobs Project.

Terri Thayer, director of the center of excellence in manufacturing at Bellingham Technical College, is talking about Manufacturing Camp 2010 for young people.

The meeting is open to the public. Committees are accepting new members during the event.
