Lady Jacks stay in district hunt
Quincy 49, Toppenish 36; Colfax 48, ACH 40; Connell 62, Warden 20; River View 63, Royal 37
QUINCY — With a 49-36 win over Toppenish on Saturday night, the Quincy Lady Jacks continue their resurgence and their move toward a Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) district playoff spot.
Quincy (7-7, 5-7) came out firing on all cylinders to take a 16-10 lead and led 28-18 at halftime.
A 13-6 burst in the third quarter all but put away Toppenish (3-11, 2-10).
Quincy was led by Desiree Durfee’s 12 points and 10 points by Dayanna Lopez.
Quincy has almost doubled last year’s win total — four — and still has six games left to play.
The previous evening 10th-ranked Prosser played host to the Lady Jacks and walked away with a 70-48 win.
Lopez scored 13 points and Durfee 10 points in defeat, as Prosser pulled away with a 25-13 third quarter performance to lead by 22 with the last eight minutes remaining.
Colfax 48, ACH 40
COLFAX — Despite taking an early lead at Colfax, the Almira/Coulee-Hartline girls basketball team could not maintain their edge and fell 48-40 on Saturday night.
Colfax (15-3) — from 1A — was able to wiggle back into the lead, 22-21 at halftime, and behind a 17-11 third quarter built a big enough cushion to hold off the visiting Lady Warriors (15-3).
ACH was led by the 13 points of Nikki Osborne and 12 points of Madeline Isaak.
The previous evening the Lady Warriors pulled away for a 57-46 win over Lind-Ritzville in Coulee City.
Isaak led all scorers with 18 points, Sarah Gloyn added 15 points, and Osborne contributed 10 points to carry ACH.
Connell 62, Warden 20
CONNELL — A rough weekend came to an end in Connell for the Lady Cougars of Warden who lost 62-20 on Saturday night to their hosts.
Connell (10-7, 8-1) led 22-14 at halftime but behind a 25-3 third quarter were able to put away Warden (2-15, 1-8).
The Lady Cougars’ loss mathematically eliminated them from an South Central Athletic Conference district playoff spot.
Emma Bisnett led Warden against Connell with eight points.
Against Columbia (Burbank) on Friday, the host Lady Cougars were stymied by a two-point second quarter and fell to their visitors 62-23.
Randi Wright led Warden with seven points.
River View 63, Royal 37
ROYAL CITY — River View’s performance at Royal on Friday night may have put a serious dent in the Lady Knights’ post-season hopes.
River View, behind a 24-12 first quarter and the 21-point performance of Kim Gier pulled away in a 63-37 win at Royal, leaving the Lady Knights three-games behind Kiona-Benton for the fourth and final SCAC district playoff berth with four games to play.
Leslie Brown led Royal (3-12, 2-6) with 21 points and nine rebounds.
