Born in Sargent, Nebraska December 15, 1936 to J Donald and Anna McIntosh, he was the oldest of three children. After several moves, Dwaine graduated from high school in Ellensburg, WA in 1954. He married his sweetheart, Anita Emry in Ellensburg on May 26, 1956. After several years of working on ranches Dwaine embarked on an ambitious venture returning to college with a wife and three children. He graduated from WSU with a doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1971. After graduation he moved his family to Moses Lake, WA to begin working at the Moses Lake Veterinary Clinic and never left. Dwaine was the owner of Moses Lake Veterinary Clinic for the past 35 years. His love and passion for animals and people has been appreciated by many over the past 40 years. He didn't just enjoy taking care of the animals he was concerned about their owners too. In 1977 he pioneered the idea of "taking the practice to the people" when he designed and had built the first mobile veterinary clinic. He thoroughly enjoyed serving the needs of the small communities in the Columbia Basin that couldn't support a full time vet.
The only thing he loved more than his veterinary work was God and his family. Dwaine was very involved in Moses Lake Assembly of God church as board member, Sunday school teacher, treasurer, encourager, prayer warrior, mentor and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Anita; daughters Cheryl (Cal) Harris, Darcy McIntosh, Lori (Lyle) Van Winkle; grandchildren Erica (Reid) Anderson, Krista Harris, Brenna, Brittany, Gabriel and Nathanael Van Winkle; great granddaughter Kya Anderson. He is also survived by his brother Darwin (Sharon) McIntosh, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Born and grandson Caleb Van Winkle.
Despite his illness he continued to work at the job he loved, dragging an oxygen tank with him. When asked, he was always "doing great" and his handshake and voice were strong to the end. He accepted and bravely fought his disease without complaint the past four years. His greatest desire was that others would see Christ in his life.
He loved us, encouraged and challenged us to be the best we could be. He listened, was never afraid to share his opinions and was proud of any accomplishment. He will be sorely missed, but always remembered in our hearts. He fought the good fight, he ran the race, he kept the faith, now there is stored up for him a crown of righteousness.
