A great time

| December 24, 2010 5:00 AM

Saturday is Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

In the final stretch to our celebration of the holiday, we find it encouraging to be able to present the numerous stories of generosity within our communities. From food and toys, to items lost in fires, we have given so generously, Santa might be worried about the competition.

It is the best of the Columbia Basin shining brightly.

Following the recession, waiting for a full recovery, many people have opened their closets, pantries and wallets to help our neighbors. The Christmas spirit is magical and we hope it can continue.

It’s easy to remember about the food bank or the children without toys around Christmas, but it seems a little harder once we pass New Year’s Eve.

Just because the Nativity scene or Christmas tree is put away into storage for next year, it doesn’t mean the hunger has gone away.

The Columbia Basin has done a magnificent job of looking out for our own this Christmas. It is something we should all be proud of. But let’s keep the momentum rolling.

Please keep the donations coming for the food banks, organizations helping children and charities using our dollars and donations locally for those in need.

A year from now it will be a magical time to remember all the good we did throughout 2011.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
