OROVILLE - Having dealt with numerous roster issues and cancelled games, the Columbia Basin Secondary School Phoenix finally got their season underway Saturday night.
The host Oroville JV squad didn't see fit to make it an easy takeoff.
The Phoenix lost their opener 83-31 as they travelled north with only seven eligible players and three starters with no previous varsity experience.
"The boys played hard but poor passing led to turnovers and lots of easy baskets for them," Phoenix head coach Rolland Hansen said. "We had three starters that had never played organized basketball before."
Junior guard Kayleb Jensen led the Phoenix (0-1) with a 17 points as he was helped by the six-point efforts of Devon Hartman and Daniel Camacho.
