Experience cheap vacation packages to Music City

| August 31, 2010 2:00 PM

If you enjoy music, you need to plan a trip to Nashville, Tenn., You'll encounter soloists playing their guitars, saxophones, banjos and other instruments on the streets, groups performing in many of the city's restaurants and big-name performers headlining venues like Ryman Auditorium, Schermerhorn Symphony Center and LP Field (formerly The Coliseum), to name a few.

Now is a great time to find cheap vacation packages to the Music City, because Nashville is desperately trying to draw visitors in after the devastating flooding of the Cumberland River in May.

The good news is most of the city's downtown is open for business, and your family can dine in famous places like Jake's Bar-B-Que, known for its Tennessee pork shoulder, Texas beef brisket, smoked turkey, Texas sausage, St. Louis ribs and smoked chicken; the Stock-Yard Steakhouse, listed as one of the top 10 steakhouses in the United States; Rotiers, where you can grab the best burger in Music City; and the Pancake Pantry, which is a Nashville tradition - but be prepared to stand in line.

Put on your dancing boots for a visit to the Wildhorse Saloon, home to Nashville's largest dance floor. This is the place to enjoy a great meal, catch the latest musical acts and try some new steps out on the dance floor. If you're into pickles, this is the place to order them.

Make sure you check out cheap vacation packages that include Tennessee Titans games, which are played in LP Field, right on the Cumberland River. The field has a beautiful view of downtown Nashville.

Unfortunately, the flooding did close Nashville's famous Grand Ole Opry as well as the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and the Opry Mills Mall next door. But all three sites are under reconstruction, and several have reopenings scheduled for this fall. If you're interested in checking out the Cumberland River close up, the General Jackson Showboat provides you with a dinner cruise that travels up and down the river for a great evening event.

Search out some cheap flights to Nashville, and be prepared to enjoy some music, whether it's country, bluegrass, jazz or rock 'n roll. You'll probably catch some musicians playing in the lobby when you first step off the plane at Nashville International Airport.
