What's not to love about sweater weather?

Something happened to me Friday that hadn’t taken place for a few months.

Something happened to me Friday that hadn't taken place for a few months.

As I was walking outside to load my car, I realized it was cool enough to wear a sweater. What? No way!

The AccuWeather forecast in the newspaper described Friday as "partly sunny, pleasant and cooler" with a high of 75 degrees. I totally agree about the pleasant part.

After weeks, days and months of hot, summertime warmth, with heat sweltering enough to make your back and feet sweat, the change from summer to fall began.

I walked back into my house to find a sweater and decided upon a tan, hooded one with a belt.

Next, I dressed my kids for their day. Luke, our baby, is easy and hasn't reached the stage where he wants to select his clothing. He also can't run away from me yet, which helps speed my morning routine.

But our daughter, Maria, 4, likes total control over her wardrobe and loves to mull over what to wear every morning.

After looking through her dresses, tops, pants, shorts, tennis shoes, sandals and flip-flops, we started narrowing down her options.

She told me she didn't want long sleeves, but I convinced her to don a sweatshirt over her short-sleeved shirt. Showing her my sweater helped prove my point.

Never mind the shorts and flip-flops she was wearing as we left the house.

Having been sufficiently warmed after dressing the kids, running up and down our basement stairs to find Maria, carrying Luke outside, feeding the cat, making my lunch and buckling the kids into their car seats, I tore off my sweater.

Of course, I brought my sweater along to work, carefully placing it in the front seat of the car, just in case I needed it later.

You never know what can happen at a newspaper and I'm all about being prepared.

At work, I alternated between wearing my sweater, being thankful for my sweater and then taking it off because it was too warm.

Perhaps I picked clothing too warm for the day. Yes, that's it.

Maybe long sleeves or a thin sweater would have been a better bet. Maybe my sweater was just a tad too thick and I overestimated my need.

Oh well, I'm not the only one who enjoys sweater weather.

Looking around my workplace, I noticed one co-worker had a light sweatshirt draped over her chair.

Another employee was using an attractive, off-white afghan to keep warm.

Which reminds me, my arms are slightly chilled now. I think I'll put on my sweater.
