MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Boys and Girls Club is presenting its plans for a new 10,700-square-foot building to the public Tuesday.

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Boys and Girls Club is presenting its plans for a new 10,700-square-foot building to the public Tuesday.

The club will unveil its capital campaign starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Pillar Rock Grill, located at 1373 Road F.2 NE in Moses Lake.

The event features speeches from Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna, state Rep. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, Moses Lake School District Superintendent Michelle Price and Moses Lake Councilmember Bill Ecret.

Brant Mayo, the club's executive director, said the event is meant to tell the community about the project. There are plans to hold fund-raising events in the future.

"We have a considerable amount of money raised toward our goal. We're hoping to get some good synergy from the event ... We do need to have the community support and the buy-in for this project," he said. "The facilities we have aren't adequate for the number of kids we're running through them."

The club is about $1.5 million short of its $2.8 million goal to construct the building next to the future Park Orchard Elementary school on Paxson Drive, Mayo said. Children attending the club will have access after school hours and the students will have access to the club during school.

"It's a pretty nice little partnership. People will be getting a little more bang for their buck," he said.

The group has been working of this project for a couple of years, and started raising money in last year.

The $1.3 million the organization raised comes from a combination of community support, state grants and other sources.
