QUINCY — A 15-year-old boy led police on a chase reaching speeds of 120 mph Wednesday.

The pursuit began on Martin Road Northwest, a half mile northeast of Quincy, when deputy Sgt. Ken Jones tried to stop a speeding motorcycle rider at roughly 1:40 p.m. The Moses Lake teenager was riding a Honda CBR 600 at 80 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to Grant County Undersheriff John Turley.

The teenager increased speed to about 120 mph as officers from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Quincy and Ephrata police began chasing him.

A Department of Justice drug enforcement helicopter also assisted with the pursuit.

After about 20 to 30 minutes, the teenager slowed down and set his motorcycle on the ground in a field of tall grass.

The helicopter helped spot the suspect trying to lie flat and cover himself with brush and directed officers to his location, according to Turley.

The teenager was arrested and booked into the juvenile detention facility in Ephrata for attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.
