Passed away on August 19, 2010 in Odessa, Washington. He was born in Odessa on January 8, 1922 to Jacob and Katherine (Homberg) Kissler. Melvin was a member of the Heritage Church in Odessa, WA. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7395 and member of the American Legion 109, Disabled American Veterans and served as Service Officer for both organizations since 1971. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marlys at the home; three children: Kelly Korpinen and Don of Odessa, WA, Terry Kissler Sr. and Rose of Sprague, WA, and Tracy Kissler of Eagle River, AK; ten grandchildren: Jaime Kissler and Sarah Anderson of Spokane, WA, Katie Ramirez and Tobias of Moses Lake, WA, Jesse Kissler and Christy of Spokane, WA, Joel Koch and Sarah Bragg of Moses Lake, WA, Melinda Canaday and Chris of Lamont, WA, Cindy Inge and Ned of Hayden, ID, Sarah Kissler and David Parkin of Sprague, WA, Tyler Kissler of Spokane, WA, Kelsey Kissler and Jesse Helland of Moses Lake, WA, and Terry Kissler Jr. of Sprague, WA; nine great grandchildren: Kyle Canaday, Tyler G. Watkins, River Kissler, Malea Canaday, Sophia Inge, Nathan Kissler, Alyzza Parkin, Vander Kissler and Owen Hellend; a sister: Virginia Humble and Bob of Napa CA as well as niece and nephews: Rod and Roger Humble, Troy Kissler and Denise, Julie Buckland and Carl, Drake Costlow, Cole and Chase Kissler. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Corey Kissler in 1985 and his brother, Merlin Kissler. A Military Graveside Service and Vault Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Odessa Cemetery, Odessa, WA. A Memorial Service will follow at the Heritage Church in Odessa at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jon Hayashi, officiating. Mr. Kissler will lie-in-state on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Chapel of Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, Washington from Noon to 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Odessa VFW # 7395, PO Box 36, Odessa, WA 99159 or to the Heritage Church, PO Box 507, Odessa, WA 99159.
