Arlington, Va. -- CampusReform.org completed an in-depth profile of the political climate at the University of Washington as part of an ongoing project to research the nation’s top 100 universities.  The research shows liberal political bias at the University of Washington based on the school’s faculty, student organizations, and administrative policies.

Liberal student groups at the University of Washington outnumber conservative groups by 27 to eight. In 2009, the university assigned Barack Obama's Dreams of My Father as the mandatory freshman reading book. In May 2010, the law school hosted a debate on the constitutionality of Obamacare, after organizers initially claimed no one could be found to debate that the plan was unconstitutional.

The political leanings of university professors are similarly biased. Specifically, 96% the school’s faculty and staff who donated in the 2008 presidential election gave to Democratic candidates, and 91% of all political donation dollars went to Democratic candidates. In total, 592 people gave $465,386 to Democratic candidates and 27 people gave $20,985 to Republican candidates.

"America's colleges and universities are dominated by liberals, and the University of Washington is no different," said Morton Blackwell, president of the Leadership Institute and founder of CampusReform.org.  "Too often, the campus left uses its power to indoctrinate the next generation."
